Penalties lock No. 18 Fort Lewis in 2-2 draw with No. 9 CSU Pueblo

Ramos registers first career goal

DURANGO, Colo. – In a battle between two giants of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, it was an exchange of second-half penalty kicks that ultimately locked No. 18-ranked Fort Lewis (3-0-4) in a 2-2 draw with No. 9-ranked CSU Pueblo (5-1-1) in front of a crowd of 312 on Dirks Field.

"The guys probably feel a bit disappointed, I thought we deserved to win the game," head coach David Oberholtzer shared. "We'll take the draw, but I thought the guys looked really good, worked very hard, and played a fantastic second half. Overall, I'm really happy with the team's performance tonight."

The two-time national runners-up ThunderWolves drew first blood in the contest when Dylan Zavatini capitalized on a loose ball in the penalty box for his second goal of the year in the 16th minute. Shjon Andrews picked up his first assist of the season after firing the initial shot which was saved by Lucas Martin who ended the evening with a season-high six saves.

Fort Lewis evened the score in the 42nd minute in near-identical fashion to The Pack. Tomas Duenes took a corner kick from the right side, and after Adnan Elaqad took the first shot right into the gloves of Tristan Whitlock, who would make two saves across the night, it was Jacob Ramos who used a quick touch with his left foot to net the first goal of his career and equalize.

Later in the 58th minute, Fabrizio Aguilera threatened at the top of the CSU Pueblo penalty box between a group of Pack defenders before he was ultimately fouled to earn a penalty kick in favor of the home squad. Gabriel Legendre took to the line, wound up, and struck the back-right corner of the net opposite of Whitlock for the 2-1 advantage, his second goal of the season, and to match Fabian Kling (2008-11) and Curt Slaughter (1998-01) for the eighth-most goals (28) in program history.

With time winding down, the ThunderWolves put together a pair of final drives, which led Tobi Osifodunrin down the right side and into the Skyhawks penalty box, and ultimately to the penalty line following a tackle. Caio Oliveira stepped up and forced the tie in the 87th minute with his third goal of the season.

CSU Pueblo out-shot Fort Lewis 18-to-8 for the match, 8-to-4 in shots on goal, and held possession for 49.5 minutes of the match against the Skyhawks 40.5. The ThunderWolves also led in corner kicks 4-to-3 while committing 14 fouls to FLC's 19.
