Program history: Skyhawks post dominant defensive win over Cougars

Fort Lewis holds Colorado Christian to the second-fewest points in program history

LAKEWOOD, Colo. Fort Lewis improved to 12-6 overall and 6-3 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play on Saturday night in the CCU Event Center as the Skyhawks forced 25 turnovers and held the Cougars to the fewest points allowed by an NCAA opponent in program history in a 74-38 win over Colorado Christian (7-10, 3-6 RMAC).

"The coaches did a great job preparing us for tonight, we felt our defensive pressure could get to them and it was a point of emphasis all week, and a huge credit to each of our guys for stepping up to the task," head coach Jordan Mast commented. "I'm proud of how our guys stepped up and played for each other tonight. Sometimes we made it harder on ourselves than we needed to, but overall, they played a complete defensive game across all 40 minutes."

Fort Lewis, throughout its last three games, has held two of its opponents to the fewest points since 2019 (54 vs. South Dakota Mines on Jan. 16) and the second-fewest points in program history. In the same two contests, the Skyhawks have dominated the turnover margin 45-17.

Tru Allen led the charge with 17 points on 6-of-14 shooting with a 3-of-4 clip from the three-point line while also adding seven rebounds, an assist, and four of Fort Lewis' 15 steals on the night. Biko Johnson was the only other Skyhawk to finish in double figures with 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting with a 2-of-5 clip from deep.

Colorado Christian also saw two finishes in double figures including Tate Odvody with 11 points, four rebounds, and a steal on a 3-of-8 clip from the field and Bradley Land with 10 points, five rebounds, three steals, one block, and a game-high seven turnovers on a 3-of-5 mark from the floor.

The Skyhawks dominated nearly every statistical category across the board, out-shooting the Cougars 41.3 percent (26-63) to 25.6 percent (11-43) from the field and 28.6 percent (8-28) to 15.8 percent (3-19) while out-rebounding CCU 39-26, winning the turnover battle 25-12, which resulted in 32 points off of turnovers, second-chance points 21-4, and bench points 22-11. Colorado Christian only out-shot Fort Lewis 72.2 percent (13-18) to 66.7 percent (14-21) at the free throw line.
