Women’s golf tripped up in opening round of NCAA West Regional Preview

PUEBLO, Colo. – Fort Lewis women's golf got off to a rocky start Monday afternoon at the Pueblo Country Club, carding a 322 (+38) overall score as a team to find themselves tied for 17th overall after the first round of the NCAA West Regional Preview.
 
The Skyhawks find themselves in a three-way split after round one, sitting even with Colorado Mesa University and Angelo State University. The trio sits two strokes ahead of Western New Mexico University (324, +40) and ten strokes ahead of Vanguard University (332, +48).
 
No. 3 nationally ranked Dallas Baptist University showed its pedigree, taking a commanding 11-stroke lead over the field in first place on the strength of a 289 (+5). Host institution Colorado State University Pueblo, playing on their home course, resides in second place with an even 300 (+16).  As for individuals, it's Metropolitan State University of Denver junior Neige Dunn leads the field by two strokes as the only player below par, utilizing five birdies to offset three bogeys en route to a 69 (-2).
 
Dimery Plewe paced the team in its first trip through the par-71 Pueblo Country Club, carding five birdies, three on the front nine and two on the back nine, to offset a series of bogeys and shoot a four-over-par 75 to sit tied for 13th. Freshman Kathryn Moores is the next closest Skyhawk, sitting tied for 36th and three strokes back from Plewe with a 78 (+7).

Sarah Grenemyer and Isabel Bustillos round out Fort Lewis' four scoring contributors, sitting back-to-back on the standings in ties for 92nd and 98th, respectively. Grenemyer fired an 84 (+13) against Bustillos' 85 (+14). Peyton Gibby was the final Skyhawk to travel, and scored an 89 (+18) to sit tied for 103rd. Excluding Plewe, the four remaining Skyhawks found just four birdies across the day.
 
One Round Left
18 holes remain in the Skyhawks final fall tournament, and the action will resume tomorrow morning, Oct. 14, with a shotgun start.
