No. 18 Skyhawks upended by No. 23 ThunderWolves at home

Fort Lewis surrenders most goals since 2020

DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College men's soccer team suffered its first shutout of the 2025 campaign Sunday afternoon in a top 25 showdown on Dirks Field, as the No. 18-ranked Skyhawks were topped 5-0 by the ThunderWolves from No. 23-ranked Colorado State University Pueblo.

Fort Lewis fell to 5-3-4 overall and 1-2-2 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action while CSU Pueblo climbed to 6-1-7 overall and 2-1-3 in conference play.

Despite holding a narrow edge in total possession, largely in part to 18 fouls and four cautions issued to the opposition, the Skyhawks produced just nine total shots with only a pair placed on goal. CSUP's Esteban Gonzalez made both saves. The ThunderWolves took a slower pace on offense, shooting just 11 shots, methodically targeting seven on-frame. Lucas Martin had a pair of saves.

CSU Pueblo found the earlier lead 21 minutes into the match, when a free kick squared up The Pack just a few yards out from the penalty area. Joseph Delaney stepped to the ball and, in his third career match with CSUP, buried the free kick inside the top-left corner for his first career goal. Nick Cenek tacked on a 2-0 advantage moments later in the 33rd minute, taking a service pass from Delaney at the far edge of the box before glancing a header back across inside the far corner.

Cenek and Delaney combined for another goal shortly into the second half at the 57-minute mark, as Deleny sent service forward from the half line through the Skyhawks' back line, where Cenek managed to stay composed and chip in a goal from the top of the penalty box. Mohammed Shahabodien tacked on his second goal of the season three minutes later, firing a rifle from 25 yards out to the top-left corner uncontested.

Cenek would cap the match with his hat-trick in the 86th, winning another one-on-one with the goalkeeper after Jose Peris Gimeno sent service forward from his own defensive half before Miguel Vazquez flicked a header forward into the open space.

-Fort Lewis has fallen to CSU Pueblo in four straight matches, but still holds a 51-16-5 lead all-time with a 29-6-3 edge in Durango, Colo.
