Lightning strikes twice, Guintini seals clean sheet in closing seconds

Guintini posts second last-minute game-winner of 2025

DURANGO, Colo. – An offensive clinic by the Skyhawks looked as if it was going to come up empty Sunday afternoon on Dirks Field, but Lorenz Guintini thought otherwise, breaking the stalemate in the 89th minute with a glancing header across the goal to seal Fort Lewis' first shutout of 2025 and a 1-0 victory over Colorado School of Mines.

Fort Lewis (6-3-4, 2-2-2 RMAC) peppered the Mines' (3-7-4, 2-5 RMAC) goal all across the afternoon, rifling off 24 total shots with a near-even 13 and 11 shots in each half, respectively. The Skyhawks put 10 shots on goal, but Mines' Kiernan DiBella made a series of stellar stops en route to seven total saves, one shy of his career-high.

Despite the consistent pressure, Mines bent, but never broke, holding strong until the closing minutes of the match. As the clock ticked under the final minute, Jacob Ramos took a throw-in at the far side inside his own half. After securing a loose ball, Quinn Bosanko sent service down the line to an awaiting Alessio Andreottola. Andreottola drove to the top corner of the box and placed a left-footed chipper right to the penalty line, where Guintini found space to head-in his Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference-leading 10th goal of the season, and fourth game-winner.

The Orediggers had quality chances themselves, taking a selective eight total shots with five shots placed between the posts. Mines' best opportunity came in the 65th minute when a foul near the left post awarded the visitors from Golden, Colo., with a penalty kick. Abou Bakar Berthe, in his first career penalty attempt for the Orediggers, went left, but Lucas Martin read it all the way, smothering the ball to keep the clean sheet. Martin matched his season-high with five saves.

Possession went the way of Fort Lewis throughout the day, with the Skyhawks leading in total minutes 51-39. Spending nearly 67 percent of possession inside the Orediggers' defending third, FLC battled to force 13 corner kicks, its most since Oct. 19, 2018. Andreottola fired off a career-high seven shots to lead all players. Guintini was close behind with a career-high six shots and four shots on goal. J McGill led Mines with three shots, putting one on-frame.
