Skyhawks volleyball topped by Orediggers

DURANGO, Colo. – The Skyhawks held tight in the first three sets, claiming the second set, but ultimately fell in four to Colorado School of Mines to end the regional pod weekend at home.

Fort Lewis College dropped to 14-7 overall and remained 8-2 in conference play while Mines improved to 17-5 on the year and 7-3 in conference.

The Skyhawks hit just .103 for the match compared to a .199 efficiency for the Orediggers. Fort Lewis put up a season-high 11 blocks, a number that was matched by Mines. The visitors ran away with 82 digs while the Skyhawks claimed 68.

Junior Jordan DeJesus led the team with 12 kills to go along with 14 digs, followed by junior Alina Nunez with 10 kills and three blocks. Senior Ryli Kalahiki added nine kills and three blocks in the effort. Senior Ivy Schoditsch and freshman Caroline Munson each put away five blocks to lead the effort. Freshman Alyx Daugherty earned 21 digs—her sixth match of the season with at least 20 digs.

Fort Lewis remains home next week for its final home matches of the regular-season. First, the Skyhawks welcome league-leading MSU Denver, currently ranked No. 12 in NCAA DII, for a 6 PM match on Friday, November 7. Fort Lewis wraps up the week on Saturday at 4 PM against (RV) UCCS.
