DURANGO, Colo. – Fort Lewis College football standout linebacker Jake Penney has been named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-Super Region 4 Second-Team, the organization announced Thursday at noon.

Penney, a six-foot inside linebacker out of Spanish Springs High School in Sparks, Nev., becomes the Skyhawks' first all-region talent since 2019. He is just the 11th defensive player and third linebacker, alongside Tim Fox (2000) and Darryl Gallegos (2002), to be named all-region.

It was a record-breaking 2025 fall campaign for Penney, who cemented himself as the program's all-time leader in career solo tackles with 206. Boasting 150 tackles and an average of 13.6 tackles per game, the third-most ever by a Skyhawk and most since 1979, Penney stood as the NCAA leader in total tackles across all levels (FBS, FCS, DII, DIII) at the end of the regular season (Nov. 15). At the conference level, Penney was also seventh in tackles for loss with 11.0 for 29 yards lost, 16th in sacks with 3.5 for 16 yards lost, tied for the sixth-most fumbles forced with two, and also broke up two passes and forced one quarterback hurry.

Fort Lewis' record book added several entries this season courtesy of Penney. Most notably, Penney shot up the all-time career tackles list to now rank third in program history with 352. He trails only Shane Voss (1990-93) with 354 and Phillip Odell (2008-12) with 367. Back on Oct. 25, Penney went off for 21 total tackles at Colorado Mesa to mark the second-most in a single game, adding to his entries with the fifth-most tackles at 18 (at New Mexico Highlands, Nov. 8, 2025 & at Black Hills State, Sept. 21, 2024) and the ninth-most tackles at 17 (vs. Arizona Christian, Sept. 14, 2024). His 146 career assisted tackles also put him three tackles shy of cracking the top-10 for the program.

Super Region 4 comprises institutions from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Lone Star Conference, Great American Conference, and the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. Athletic communication professionals from Super Region 4 institutions and conferences selected the D2CCA All-Super Region teams. The process concludes with All-American selections to be announced later in December.
