Moores sinks hole-in-one, paces Skyhawks in Goodyear

9/15/2025 3:46:00 PM

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Kathryn Moores sank a hole-in-one on the hole three par three on Monday afternoon at the Golf Club of Estrella to capture the lead spot among Skyhawks and guide Fort Lewis women's golf to a tie for ninth place as a squad in the first round of the Ruidoso Junior Golf Association Shootout at Estrella.

Moores, a true freshman out of La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, N.M., sank her hole-in-one on the final hole of the afternoon, and in just her third round of collegiate golf. In addition, the shot stands as the only eagle in the tournament thus far.

Through 18 holes at the 5,901-yard and par-72 Golf Club of Estrella, Moores leads all Skyhawks in a tie for 11th with a two-over-par and career-best 74. Sarah Grenemyer joins Moores inside the top 25, finishing in a tie for 21st, just one stroke back on a 75 (+3). Grenemyer also led all Fort Lewis golfers with four birdies.

Annika Gutierrez is next up on the leaderboard in a tie for 43rd on a 79 (+7); however, Gutierrez is competing as an unattached individual and cannot contribute to the team's overall score. Dimery Plewe (80, +8), Peyton Gibby (80, +8), and Isabel Bustillos (84, +12) round out the Skyhawks squad in ties for 47th, 47th, and 63rd, respectively.

Cal State Los Angeles, which received votes on the latest Division II Mizuno Women's Golf Coaches Association national poll, sits in first place overall with the only score below par of 287 (-1). CSULA holds a seven-stroke lead over No.9-ranked Cal State San Marcos (294, +6). Meanwhile, on the individual side, it's Vanguard University's Theresa Shaw who holds sole possession of first place with a three-under-par 69.

Fort Lewis finds itself in a tie for ninth place with fellow Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference member MSU Denver, as the two teams fired off a pair of 309s (+21). The two follow eighth-place Jessup on a 306 (+18), seventh-place Point Loma with a 303 (+15), and Arizona Christian, Texas A&M Kingsville, and Lubbock Christian, who are knotted in a three-way tie for fourth on a trio of 301s (+13).

The final round will tee off with a shotgun start, followed by a few staggered tee times, at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 16.
