BROOMFIELD, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College women's golf team, aided by a pair of Skyhawks in the hunt for the top 25, finds itself in seventh place among eleven teams after an opening round 316 (+28) at the Swan Memorial.

Fort Lewis resides in seventh overall, trailing MSU Denver and Angelo State, who are tied for fifth (311, +23), by just five strokes. CSU Pueblo, who were picked to finish first in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, leads the tournament with a 295 (+7) overall. As for individuals, South Dakota Mines' Kenzie Schroeder sits atop the leaderboard as the only player to finish below par with a 70 (-2).

A trio of Skyhawks carded rounds in the 70s, including Dimery Plewe and Isabel Bustillos, who each lead Fort Lewis with a pair of 78s (+6). Both players wound up with a single double-bogey through the first round, but Plewe held the edge with three birdies to two. The duo sits in a five-way split for 26th and three strokes shy of the top 10. Freshman Kathryn Moores has impressed so far in her collegiate debut, sitting in a tie for 31st and just one stroke back of Plewe and Bustillos with a 79 (+7).

Sarah Grenemyer and Annika Gutierrez back the Skyhawks five scoring players, sitting in ties for 41st and 53rd after their first trip around Broadlands Golf Club. Grenemyer used a pair of birdies to offset untimely bogeys, finishing nine strokes above par with an 81. Gutierrez resides a few strokes behind with an 84 (+12). Ellie White and Peyton Gibby, who are competing as unattached individuals, carded single-round scores of 81 (+9) and 84 (+12) to sit locked in ties for 41st and 53rd, respectively.

Fort Lewis will cap the Swan Memorial with 18 more holes at Broadlands Golf Club tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 9.
