Fort Lewis College Athletics announces leadership transitions in Sports Performance and External Relations

DURANGO, Colo. — Fort Lewis College Athletics is pleased to announce key leadership transitions within the department, including the return of alumnus Darrian Stickney as Director of Sports Performance and the elevation of Alec Munro to Associate Athletic Director for External Relations.

Munro will transition from his role as Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Performance & Wellness, During his tenure, Munro was instrumental in the design, fundraising, and completion of the new CommonSpirit Sports Performance Center, a $6 million, 10,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility that had its grand opening in the spring of 2025.

In his new role as Associate Athletic Director for External Relations, Munro will focus on advancing Fort Lewis College Athletics' external engagement initiatives, including alumni relations, donor stewardship, strategic partnerships, and community outreach, supporting the department's long-term visibility and impact.

With Munro's transition, Fort Lewis College Athletics is proud to welcome back alumnus Darrian Stickney as Director of Sports Performance.

Stickney returns to Durango after serving as Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Briar Cliff University, where he oversaw sports performance programming for all 16 varsity programs. His responsibilities included program design and implementation, performance analytics, budget oversight, and fundraising to enhance facilities and the student-athlete experience.

Prior to his time at Briar Cliff, Stickney worked as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Chadron State College and as a Football Sports Performance Intern at Arizona State University, where he supported Power Five football performance operations. Early in his career, he also served Fort Lewis College as Running Backs Coach and Strength and Conditioning Coach.

As an alumnus, I have witnessed firsthand the incredible growth and momentum this department has generated over the past five years. I am extremely excited for the opportunity to give back to a campus and community that gave so much to me during my time as a student-athlete. Our goal within the sports performance department is to promote athletic excellence across all programs and continue moving Fort Lewis College forward as a premier institution within the RMAC."

A Fort Lewis College graduate, Stickney earned his Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Science before completing a Master of Science in Sports Management at Chadron State College. He holds his SCCC certification, First Aid/CPR credentials, and is pursuing advanced certifications in speed development and Olympic weightlifting.

As Director of Sports Performance, Stickney will lead all strength and conditioning operations across Fort Lewis College Athletics, with a focus on performance optimization, injury reduction, and sustaining a high-performance culture across all programs.
