Women’s golf wraps up round one in Alameda

ALAMEDA, Calif. – Fort Lewis women's golf kicked off its spring championship season on Monday morning, carding a 332 (+44) as a team to trail the pack after the opening round of the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout at Corica Park Golf Course.
 
The Skyhawks struggled in their first round of the spring and now trail 18th-place Northwest Nazarene University (322, +34) by ten strokes. Fort Lewis managed just three birdies and 40 pars. Isabel Bustillos and Kathryn Moores both posted a birdie on the par-five holes 17 and 15, respectively, while Dimery Plewe scored a two on the par-three hole seven.
 
Peyton Gibby and Bustillos paced the team in its first trip through the 5,800-yard par 72 course, each finishing the day tied for 68th overall with 81s (+9) on the scorecard. Moores sits in third behind the pair, tying for 84th on an 84 (+12). Ellie White and Plewe round out the pack in 92nd and 97th on the back of scores of 86 (+14) and 89 (+17), respectively.
 
California State University San Marcos, ranked No. 17 in the final Women's Golf Coaches Association Mizuno Coaches Poll last fall, leads the tournament overall with a five-under-par 283 and four players inside of the top 18 on the leaderboard. Point Loma Nazarene University is the only other program under par, sitting in second place with a 286 (-2).
 
12 individuals went under par in their opening rounds, led by the trio of California State University East Bay's Carlota Eroles, Point Loma's Summer Schafer, and Seattle Pacific University's Zoe Garcia, who each finished four-under-par at 68 overall.
