Skyhawks tested in early rounds at The Quail

CARMEL, Calif. – The Fort Lewis women's golf team fired off a 326 (+42) in round one before slipping to a 338 (+54) in round two, ultimately putting the Skyhawks in 12th-place and 664 (+96) overall after the first two rounds of the Patriot Invitational over at The Quail Golf Club.
 
The Quail's 5,875-yard, par 71 coastal course proved challenging as no team in the field finished below par, paced by No. 2-ranked and tournament hosts Dallas Baptist University, who led the tournament by nine strokes at 583 (+15) overall. The Patriots carry three players inside the top 5, including Madison Ude, who sits tied with the University of Texas at Tyler's Karina Duran for the individual lead on a pair of one-over 143s.
 
Fort Lewis, after dropping 12 strokes in its second trip around the course, finds itself trailing Ferris State University by 37 strokes, with the Bulldogs sitting at 627 (+59).
 
Dimery Plewe was the lone Skyhawk to finish below 80 in the first round, firing off two birdies across the front nine and back nine en route to a five-over 76. Isabel Bustillos was the only other Skyhawk to record a birdie in round one, shooting an 81 (+10). Peyton Gibby fired off an 83 (+12), Ellie White an 86 (+15), and Kathryn Moores an 87 (+16).
 
Plewe put up just one birdie in her second round, dropping six strokes to an 82 (+11) to sit in a three-way tie for 46th at 158 (+16) overall. Gibby carded seven pars in round two against her ten in round one, dropping a pair of strokes for an 85 (+14) en route to a 168 (+26) overall and a tie for 60th.
 
White made the biggest improvement among Skyhawks, shaving off three strokes in her second round thanks to a trio of birdies to score an 83 (+12) and move into a tie for 62nd on a 169 (+27) alongside Bustillos, who managed just one birdie while scoring an 88 (+17). Moores rounded out the pack with a 103 (+32), falling to 66th overall on a 190 (+48) after the first day.
