DURANGO, Colo. – After a week on the road, the Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team returns home to begin a four-game homestand—first with games against Westminster University and Colorado Mesa University.

Last Time Out
Fort Lewis dropped its opening game last week to UCCS by a 22-7 final despite trailing by just four goals at halftime. UCCS controlled much of the game statistically, outshooting Fort Lewis 43-18, including a 24-12 advantage in shots on goal. The Mountain Lions also held edges in draw controls (21-11) and ground balls (26-25).

Junior Piper Price and sophomore Jasmine Nguyen led the Skyhawks offensively with two goals apiece, each adding an assist. Senior Sydney Tannaci anchored the defense with a team-high six ground balls and three caused turnovers, while freshman Kelcie Bolling contributed three ground balls. In goal, junior Olivia Tilbury recorded six saves and four ground balls.

Then, the Skyhawks face No. 17 Regis University on Sunday where they fell in an 18-1 score. Regis controlled the game statistically, holding a 35-12 advantage in shots and a 22-4 edge in shots on goal. Fort Lewis committed 17 turnovers but found some success on clears, going 9-of-12.

Senior Diamond Velasco scored the lone goal for the Skyhawks and led the team with two shots on goal. Seniors Samantha Rodgers and Sydney Tannaci each recorded three caused turnovers, with Tannaci adding a team-high three ground balls. Sophomore Jasmine Nguyen collected three draw controls, while junior goalkeeper Olivia Tilbury made 11 saves in net.

Defensive Dandies
Fort Lewis has been led by its defense through five games with the team fourth in ground balls per game (23.00) and second in caused turnovers per game (11.60) in the conference standings. Much of that prowess runs through seniors Sydney Tannaci and Samantha Rodgers. Tannaci ranks first in the RMAC in ground balls per game (4.75), followed by Rodgers in second with 3.80 per game. Rodgers leads the league in caused turnovers per game with 4.80.

Scouting Westminster
The Griffins are enjoying a turnaround season with a 5-2 overall record and a 3-0 mark in conference play to lead the league. Notable wins include a pair of 12-11 decisions against UCCS and Regis in the first week of RMAC play.

Through seven games, Westminster is averaging 12.14 goals per game compared to 12.57 from the opposition. The team has a .698 shots on goal percentage and a .862 clear percentage. They have totaled 180 ground balls, 88 caused turnovers, and 81 draw controls.

Defensively, the squad is paced by veteran Marianna Dick who has 33 caused turnovers and 23 ground balls and was named the national player of the week this season. Three players have double-digit goals, led by Olivia Petrosky at 16. Ava Deakins leads the way with 11 assists to go along with eight goals (19 points). Westminster has used three goalkeepers with Sienna Garcia playing the most minutes and carrying an 11.09 goals against average.

Scouting Colorado Mesa
The Mavericks are suffering an uncharacteristically down season, sitting at 1-8 overall and 0-2 in the conference. Colorado Mesa is 0-4 on the road. Interestingly, the team's lone win this season came in a 15-14 decision over No. 16 Florida Tech. Of the team's eight losses, six have come by three goals or less.

As a team, Mesa has scored 87 goals while surrendering 114. The team puts up 26.2 shots per game with a shots on goal percentage of .662. They have 153 ground balls, 97 draws, and 78 caused turnovers. An area where the Mavericks could improve is free position attempts, where they are just 14-of-42 (.333).

The duo of Carson Dickey and Kaylee Kittle lead the team with 18 goals each, followed by Courtney Havel with 12. Havel leads the team with eight assists, bringing her point total to 20 to rank second on the team. Two players have double-digit ground balls and caused turnovers, paced by Monroe McClimans with 16 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers. Goalkeeper Heather Hawkins leads the team in ground balls (28) to go along with a goals against average of 12.57.
