Offense erupts as Skyhawks post 7-0 rout of Buffs in Canyon

Agostinho nets second brace in as many games

CANYON, Texas – Five different Skyhawks found the back of the net in the Texas heat on Saturday afternoon, including yet another brace by Simão Agostinho, lifting the Fort Lewis College men's soccer team (2-0) to a dominant 7-0 win over West Texas A&M University (1-1) at The Pitch.
 
The Skyhawks offense was lethal and selective, launching 10 shots on goal in 12 total attempts. Defenseman Iver Høihjelle got the action going in the sixth minute, taking service on the second of two corner kicks from Francisco Pinto to tuck an unchecked header inside the back post for the first goal of his career.
 
It would be Pinto who tacked on another goal moments later in the 10th minute, his first of 2026, with an easy one-touch redirection from the penalty line between a trio of Buffalo defenders after William Bretvik raced to the endline before centering service for the first assist and points of his collegiate career.
 
West Texas A&M's Felix Casas was then shown a straight red card in the 16th minute of play, leaving the Buffalos down to ten men for the remainder of the contest.
 
Soon after, in the 27th minute, Johan N'Ganzadi sprinted down the sideline and into the penalty area where he forced a hard foul from a defender to earn a penalty kick. Agostinho stepped up, took a stutter-step on his approach, and buried his third goal of the year into the bottom-left corner. Out of the half, Agostinho went right back on the offensive, using a pair of give-and-go passes from Pinto and Raul Baptista Filipe near midfield to split two defenders before beating the keeper to the right post from 18 yards to net his second brace in as many games.
 
The Buffs' best chance to break the shutout came soon after in the 57th minute on a long throw from the sidelines. While Lucas Martin punched out the initial throw, Edward Acosta sent a follow-up header back into goal, but Zachary Lanman was there with a header of his own to make the save.
 
Annis Harrar and the Skyhawks went back on the attack in the 64th minute as Harrar raced down the sideline from his own defensive third, with a quick give-and-go with Baptista Filipe at midfield, before sending an arching pass to a streaking Bretvik just near the penalty line for an easy tap-in score, Bretvik's first career goal, and Harra's first assist at Fort Lewis and second of his career.
 
Fabrizio Aguilera would step up and bury a free-kick goal from the top edge of the box off the left post in the 70th minute. Noah Boren tacked on the final score of the match, and the first of his career, collecting a clearing pass from Alexandros Papakonstantinou at midfield before outracing two defenders and glancing a shot from the top of the box off the turf and inside the left post.
 
Notes
-Fort Lewis opens the season at 2-0-0 for the first time since 2020.
-The Skyhawks now lead West Texas A&M 13-8-1 all-time and tie the series up at 4-4 in Canyon, Texas. In addition, FLC have won five straight over WTAMU and back-to-back games in Canyon.
-Simão Agostinho has netted back-to-back braces in his first two appearances as a Skyhawk, notching four goals in the span of just 98 minutes on the pitch.
-Francisco Pinto set a new career high with two assists today, adding to his goal for four points on the afternoon. It's Pinto's third match with at least one goal and one assist each, bringing the sophomore's career marks to seven goals and eight assists.
-Iver Høihjelle scored his first career goal in his 97th minute of collegiate action.
-William Bretvik, in his eighth career match, tallied his first career goal and assist.  
-Raul Baptista Filipe recorded his second assist in as many games, the third of his career, and sits tied with Francisco Pinto for the most assists (two) thus far this season.
-Fabrizio Aguilera scored his 12th career goal. The junior also boasts four career assists for 26 total points.
-Noah Bouren registered his first career goal in his second appearance and 52nd career minute.
-Alexandros Papakonstantinou made his first assist as a Skyhawk and the second of his collegiate career.
-Lucas Martin, Tor Dahlqvist, and Annis Harrar played all 90 minutes.

Fort Lewis will look ahead to its 2026 home opener this Thursday, Sept. 3, as the Skyhawks host St. Edward's University (0-0-1) under the lights of Dirks Field at 7 p.m. The Hilltoppers opened the season with a 1-1 draw against Texas A&M International University (0-0-1), and will face preseason No. 20-ranked California State University Dominguez Hills (1-0) tomorrow at 2 p.m. MST.
