Adam Wattenbarger will embark on his first season coaching for the Skyhawks in the fall of 2026.
Boasting over nine years of collegiate coaching experience, Wattenbarger comes to Durango following just over two seasons with the Monarchs at Methodist University (NCAA DIII). Serving as the pass game coordinator, recruiting coordinator, and quarterbacks coach, Wattenbarger helped the program produce three USA South All-Conference selections, nine Methodist Scholar-Athletes of the Year, and three College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honorees.
Prior to Methodist, Wattenbarger spent two seasons as the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Spartans at Manchester University (NCAA DIII). At the helm of the offense, Wattenbarger helped the Spartans' offense make a near 100-yard-per-game improvement from year one to year two, increasing the passing game's efficiency by 600 yards with a 10 percent increase in total completion percentage. In total, the Spartans produced 17 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference selections alongside D3Football.com All-Region 4 First-Team selection and D3Football.com Third-Team All-American Andrew Kibler.
Wattenbarger and head coach Johnny Cox are no strangers, as Wattenbarger served as the offensive graduate assistant under Cox's offense at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke in the fall of 2020. The pair combined to average 433 yards of total offense and score 32.5 points per game through four contests in the abbreviated COVID-19 season.
He got his start in coaching with the Battlers at now-closed Alderson Broaddus University (NCAA DII). While in Philippi, West Virginia, Wattenbarger served in a variety of roles such as the running backs and tight ends coach, wide receivers coach, and recruiting and video coordinator before finishing his time as the quarterbacks coach and assistant pass-game coordinator.
Wattenbarger earned his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a Coaching Minor from Alderson Broaddus University in 2016. He later earned his Master's degree from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
