Emily Hanenberg

Emily Hanenberg joins the Skyhawks in 2024 as the Assistant Sports Performance Coach and will work with volleyball, cross country, and sprints.

Hanenberg was welcomed to Durango after two years as an athletic performance graduate assistant coach at Dallas Baptist University. At DBU, she was in charge of designing and implementing training programs for men’s golf, men’s track and field, women’s tennis, dance, and cheer/stunt. She also assisted with the training programs for the women’s volleyball team.

She began her career in the collegiate strength and conditioning space while interning at her undergraduate school, Pittsburg State University. There, she facilitated pre-programmed workouts for the student-athletes, recorded data for attendance, maximal lifts, and sprint time, among many other duties. Hanenberg has also spent time as a private volleyball coach—a sport that she played at the NCAA DII level while studying at Pittsburg State.

A four-year member of the volleyball team as a middle blocker, she earned her undergraduate degree in Exercise Science with an emphasis in Clinical/Strength and Conditioning in May 2022. She went on to earn her master’s degree in Kinesiology from Dallas Baptist this past May. Throughout her academic career, she was a frequent member of the Dean’s List and the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. She was the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).
