Former Fort Lewis College volleyball player Stephanie Lathrop returns to the team in 2012 as an assistant coach. She will also teach classes in the FLC Exercise Science Department.

Lathrop was a three-year starting middle blocker at Fort Lewis from 1997-2000 and was a captain during her senior season.

She spent five seasons from 2005-06 and 2008-10 as head coach at Inglemoor High School in Kenmore, Wash. During her five seasons, the Vikings posted a 50-38 record (.538). During the 2005 campaign, Inglemoor went 18-2 (.900) and finished first in the KingCO 4A regular season and tournament, posting an undefeated record in conference play. The Vikings attended and garnered their first victory in the state playoffs since 1984. For her efforts, she was chosen as KingCO 4A Coach of the Year. Her 2006 squad went 14-6 (.700), won the district tournament after a third-place finish in the regular season, and advanced to the state tournament.

While at Inglemoor, Lathrop supervised the coaching staff, coordinated summer camps, developed strength and conditioning programs and open gym opportunities, planned and facilitated all workouts, practices, games, and travel schedules, and was responsible for all correspondence and communication with district, school, administration, student-athletes, and parents.

Her coaching experience at the club level includes stints with the Washington Volleyball Academy, Nevillizms, and Northwest Juniors Volleyball Club. She was the head coach of the WVA’s U16 red team in 2003-04, guiding the squad to four tournament championships and a 17th place finish in the 111-team Far Westerns in Reno, Nev. She was associate head coach for the NJVC U17 Thunder national team in 2002-03, assistant coach for the WVA’s U18 red and black teams in 2004-05, staff coach for Nevillizms from 2006-08, and assistant coach for the WVA’s U18 red team in 2008.

She holds USAVolleyball CAP I certification and IMPACT certification.

Most recently she served as volunteer head coach at Gateway High School in Aurora, Colo., since March 2012, but resigned when offered the assistantship at her alma mater.

She graduated from Green Mountain High School in Lakewood, Colo., in 1997. She volleyball for both the Rams and their Jeffco rival Pomona High School in Arvada, Colo., during her high school career. She was also a three-year member of the Front Range Volleyball Club.

Lathrop earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Fort Lewis in 2001. As an undergraduate, she served as assistant to the sports information director (current FLC Assistant Director of Athletics for Communications Chris Aaland) from 1999-2001 and as an assistant to the Athletic Department’s office manager from 1997-99.

Her professional experience includes nearly a decade with the Willbros Group, Inc., and the InfrastruX Group, Inc., in both Denver and Seattle. (The Willbros Group acquired InfrastruX in 2010.) Most recently, she has worked as a marketing specialist and consultant for Willbros since 2011. This firm works in strategy development for the utility transmission and distribution segment. Her duties have included market research, analysis, data compilation, data presentation to the executive leadership team to determine capital investment spending. She managed a variety of marketing collateral, which included content, design, and procurement of marketing brochures, advertisements, graphics, and merchandise. She is also the managing editor of the company’s website and social media sites and has coordinated events and trade shows.

Lathrop also has professional experience for InfrastruX as a project manager (2008-10) and executive/HR assistant (2002-06). She was the customer care coordinator for Centex Homes in Kirtland, Wash., from 2007-08.
