Men's Soccer Defeat Regis on Senior Day

Skyhawks Remain Undefeated in Conference
October 25, 2009. Durango, CO - The Fort Lewis Men's soccer team took on Regis University earlier this afternoon for Senior Day defeating the Rangers 3-1. On a cold windy day the Skyhawks remained undefeated in the conference after Joe Barnd, Abdel Becerra, and Thomas Hoang each tallied a goal on the day.

The Rangers got on the board first when they were given a penalty kick after one their players was taken down in the box. Ranger Donnie Montoya stepped up to take the PK slipping it past FLC goalkeeper Zane Wells for a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute.

In the 18th minute the Skyhawks evened the score when senior David Barden flicked the ball with his head over the defenders to Joe Barnd who beat the RU keeper finding the back of the net.

Just thirty four seconds into the second half, Barnd earned his third point in the match when he passed the ball through the defenders to Becerra finding himself one vs. one with keeper. Becerra placed it perfectly passed the keeper to give the Skyhawks a 2-1 lead.

Hoang, who started for Keane Hamilton who is out with an injury, earned himself a goal in the 61st minute off an assist from senior Sam Morris. Morris found Hoang at the top of the 18 yard box who then fired a rocket into the upper right hand corner of the net for a 3-1 lead.

The Skyhawks were able to hang on to the lead improving their record to 15-1-0 overall and 12-0-0 in the RMAC.  They will be traveling to the Denver area next weekend to take on UCCS on Friday and Pueblo on Sunday.
