October 31, 2009. Durango, CO - #3 Fort Lewis Men's soccer team shutout the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs at Mountain Lion Stadium 3-0 last night.
The Skyhawks improved to 16-0 overall, 13-0 in the RMAC after Joe Barnd scored twice for the Hawks' and Abdel Becerra recorded a goal as well in the match.
Fort Lewis got on the board in the 34th minute when Becerra dribbled toward goal and chipped the keeper for a 1-0 lead. In the 59th minute Barnd put the Skyhawks up 2-0 when he headed the ball into the back of the net off of a cross from Dimo Krymanidis.
With less than three minutes remaining, Barnd earned his second goal of the match when he took a shot from the left side of the goal finding the inside of the far post.
Senior Zane Wells made three saves on the night for his ninth shutout of the season. The Skyhawks also outshot the Mountain Lions 23-5 as Barnd led with 5 shots.
The Skyhawks will be taking on CSU-Pueblo in Pueblo Sunday afternoon at 12:00PM.
