#2 Fort Lewis Men's Soccer RMAC Tournament Champs

Purcell Scores 18th Goal of the Season in RMAC Championship
November 8, 2009. Durango, CO - For the fifth year in a row the #2 Fort Lewis Men's soccer team won the RMAC Tournament and the second year in a row that the Skyhawks have won the RMAC regular season going undefeated.

The Skyhawks took on the Metro State Roadrunners in the tournament championship this afternoon at Dirks Field. Fort Lewis started off strong showing the Roadrunners why they are ranked #2 in the nation and never let down. 

Just 6 minutes into the game Tom Settle tallied his third assist of the tournament off of a corner kick.  Settle sent in a bending ball into the box finding Jamie Cunningham who was able to head it past the Metro goalkeeper for an early lead 1-0.

Metro State was able to even up the score in the 34th minute when Steven Emory headed the ball into the back of the net off of a direct kick.

In the 34th minute Settle recorded his second assist of the game and 4th in the tournament when he sent in another perfect cornerkick finding Fabian Kling this time who poked it in for a 2-1 lead.

The Skyhawks continued to out play the Roadrunners and found the back of the net one more time. Euan Purcell who has been out of play the last few games due to injury came off the bench and put the Skyhawks up 3-1 recording his 18th goal of the season in just 15 games. In the 65th minute captain Jeff Jennings crossed the ball into the six yard box finding Purcell who headed it in for a two goal lead.

The Skyhawk's defense gave MSCD few chances to capitalize outshooting the Roadrunners 22-3 in the match. Zane Wells only having to make two saves to their seven.  Kyle Wood, Kling, Joe Barnd, and Settle all recorded three shots in the match.

Settle was voted RMAC Tournament MVP recording 1 goal and 4 assists during the tournament. Other Skyhawk players that were named to the RMAC All-Tournament team were: Wood, Cunningham, Dimo Krymanidis, Thomas Hoang, and Settle.
