Central Washington 91, Fort Lewis 82
Wildcats shoot 57.7 percent from field to topple Skyhawks
LAS VEGAS, Nevada --- Forward Humberto Perez led a balanced attack with 16 points as hot-shooting Central Washington University defeated Fort Lewis College, 91-82, in first-day men's basketball action Thursday at the third annual Great Western Shootout being held at the Doolittle Community Center.
Guards Jon Clift, JC Cook and Toussaint Tyler each had 15 points for Central, which improved to 4-3.
Fort Lewis, which fell to 8-2 and had a four-game winning streak snapped, was led by the game-high 28 points of guard DeAndre Lansdowne. David Kanyinda added 16 points for the Skyhawks.
Central, which did not trail after the first nine minutes, shot 57.7 percent (30-of-52) from the field, including 72.7 percent (8-of-11) on 3-pointers. The Wildcats hit 63.6 percent (14-of-22) from the floor in the second half, making all four of their 3-point attempts.
Central led by just one, 75-74, with six minutes left, but held Fort Lewis to just two points in the next four minutes to put the game out of reach.
In final-day tourney action Friday, Central plays Washburn at 3 p.m. and Fort Lewis faces host Western Washington at 5 p.m. Western defeated Washburn, 71-56, in the other tourney game Thursday.
