Balanced scoring leads Fort Lewis men's hoops to 91-76 win at Chadron State

CHADRON, Neb. – Fort Lewis (8-2 overall, 4-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) relied on balanced scoring and muscle on the glass to defeat Chadron State (5-6, 3-4) 91-76 in men's basketball action tonight at Armstrong Gymnasium.

Six players scored in double figures for the Skyhawks. Matt Morris led the way with 19 points and five rebounds, while Daniel Steffensen added 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists. DeAndre Lansdowne (12), Kyle Behrens (11), Matt Billups (10) and Torrey Udall (10) also hit double digits.

Fort Lewis won the battle of the boards, outrebounding Chadron State 36-26, including a 14-4 edge in offensive caroms.

FLC also shot well from the field (.525, 31 of 59), but the Eagles nearly matched them (.538, 28 of 52). The difference came from FLC's ability to get to the free throw line. The Skyhawks made 23 of 36 charity shots (.639). Chadron State was a torrid .833 from the line, making 15 of 18.

The Skyhawks nearly led from start to finish, with the Eagles' lone lead coming just 20 seconds into the game. FLC took a 45-37 lead into the locker room at halftime and built a lead as large as 21 points in the second frame.

Chadron State was led by Moala Tautuaa, who went a perfect 9-for-9 from the field en route to a 24-point, six-rebound effort. Trey Mosby and Kevin McClelland each scored 12 in a losing effort.

Fort Lewis continues its two-game Nebraska road trip at 4 p.m. (MST) tomorrow afternoon against Nebraska-Kearney (5-6, 3-4).
