Box Score

PUEBLO, Colo. — Colorado State-Pueblo (12-10 overall, 8-6 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) rallied from a 2-1 deficit to beat Fort Lewis (5-17, 2-12) tonight at Massari Gymnasium, 25-21, 20-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-9.

“We battled for four games, but played completely flat in the fifth game,” said eighth-year FLC head coach Shelly Aaland. “We allowed their senior-dominated team to overtake our momentum.”

The loss overshadowed a great effort by the young Skyhawks — a squad that featured four freshmen and two sophomores in the lineup tonight. Stephani Sonka led the way with 17 kills and four blocks, while Ashley Wells added 15 kills and 20 digs. Jessica Wilson, one of FLC's two seniors, had a solid match with 14 kills and 20 digs.

The ThunderWolves were paced by Bernadette Pitre (16 kills), Alea Wildman (16 kills, 16 digs), Siera Moran (12 kills), and Ashley Michel (28 digs).

Both teams' setters notched 51 assists — FLC's Ciara Krening, who added 13 digs, and CSUP's Kacy Griffin, who also notched 17 digs and three blocks.

As a team, the ThunderWolves recorded 65 kills, 98 digs, seven blocks, and a .213 hitting efficiency.

Fort Lewis had 60 kills, 85 digs, six blocks, and a .158 hitting percentage.

The game marked the final road contest of the season for the Skyhawks. FLC concludes 2011 regular season play with four straight at home, starting at 7 p.m. next Friday against New Mexico Highlands (10-13, 4-9). FLC also hosts Western New Mexico (10-10, 6-6) at 7 p.m. next Saturday in its annual Pink Digs for a Cure game to benefit emergency fund scholarships for local, in-treatment breast cancer patients through the Women's Health Coalition of Southwest Colorado.
