LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. — Fort Lewis College's Charlie Laudermilk shot a seven-over-par 79 yesterday afternoon in the final round of the NCAA Division II West/Central SuperRegional men's golf tournament yesterday at the Wigwam Resort's Gold Course

The junior finished the three-day, 54-hole tournament 12 strokes behind the final individual qualifier for the NCAA-II national championships. Laudermilk carded a three-day score of 229 (76, 74, 79), good for a 57th place tie. He entered the day just four strokes off the pace to qualify.

Calif. State-Stanislaus (865, +1), Chico State (Calif.) (869, +5), Colorado Mines (871, +7), Western Washington (876, +12), and Grand Canyon (Ariz.) (877, +13) all qualified for the NCAA Championships, which be held May 15-19 at The Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Ky., as part of the 2012 Division II Spring Championships Festival, hosted by Bellarmine University and the Louisville Sports Commission.

California State-Monterey Bay's Alex Sobstad (212, -4) and Dixie State's (Utah) Kyle Chappell (217, +1) earned the two individual places for the NCAA championships. Chappell and James Berry of Colorado State-Pueblo tied at 217 and began a playoff. The two halved the first hole of the playoff course. Due to darkness, play was halted and Chappell was awarded the final individual spot due to a lower final round score (he shot 71, while Berry shot 76).

The junior from Stephen F. Austin High School in Austin, Texas, earned All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference third team honors and was named to the RMAC All-Tournament Team earlier this season.

Laudermilk has participated in the NCAA Division II West/Central SuperRegionals all three of his seasons at Fort Lewis. He helped the Skyhawks earn a team berth in the national championships last spring, where they tied for fifth place.

Jim Knous of Colorado Mines (209, -7) was the individual medalist in the SuperRegionals, trailed by Chico State's Kyle Souza (211, -5). Both Knous and Souza were members of qualifying teams.

Lauderdale was the lone junior on the Skyhawk golf squad in 2011-12. The team has no seniors.
