Box Score DENVER, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College men's soccer team lost a 3-1 decision at No. 24 Metropolitan State University of Denver Friday afternoon. Fort Lewis moves to 6-4-1 overall and 3-4-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
"This was a tough one to lose," said Fort Lewis College head men's soccer coach
Oige Kennedy. "We started the game and had two great opportunities to score and didn't take them. We kept pushing all the way toward the end. We definitely had enough opportunities to score but didn't take the chances we needed to."
Metro State (6-2-3, 4-1-2) got on the scoreboard first in the 43
rd minute behind Kevin Pocalyko's first goal of the season. The Roadrunners extended their lead to 2-0 at 71:13 when Danny Arrubla found the back of the net from the far left wing.
Zac Lawrence prevented the shutout from the Roadrunners when he took a pass from
Austin Derksen and fired it into the back of the net from 30 yards out. Two minutes later Metro State struck again to secure their win, 3-1.
Fort Lewis posted a 24-15 shots attempted advantage, with both teams landing seven shots on goal apiece.
Ryan Schaul played all 90 minutes between the posts, making four saves against the Roadrunners.
The Skyhawks will travel to Golden, Colo. to play No. 16 Colorado Mines Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
