Mavericks Edge Men’s Soccer, 2-1

DURANGO, Colo. – For the second year in a row, Colorado Mesa University defeated Fort Lewis College at home.  The Skyhawks fell to the Mavericks Saturday afternoon at Dirks Field, 2-1.

After a scoreless first half, Colorado Mesa went up 2-0 on Fort Lewis.  Stevie Palma found Alan Herndandez at 50:10 for the Mavs first goal of the second half.  Legofi Crawford found the back of the net at 72:04 after going one on one with the Skyhawks goalie, Ryan Schaul.

Jordan Alexander received a pass from Tamino Kroeger and turned his defender to strike the ball from five yards out that landed in the back left corner of the net.  Alexander's sixth goal of the season came at 86:45.  The Skyhawks were unable to knot the game as they fall to 8-6-1 overall and 5-6-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

The win improves the Mavericks to 8-4-3 overall and 6-2-3 in league matches.

The Skyhawks posted 10 shots to the Mavericks seven.  Eight of FLC's 10 shot attempts came in the second half.

The Skyhawks played today's game because of yesterday's inclement weather that delayed the start of the women's game by more than two hours.  Fort Lewis will play host to Metro State Sunday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
