CSU-Pueblo Hands Skyhawks a 93-87 Setback

Box Score DURANGO, Colo. – Despite coming back from a 19-point deficit in the first half and take a two point lead at halftime, the Fort Lewis College men's basketball team suffered a 93-87 setback to Colorado State University-Pueblo Saturday night at Whalen Gymnasium.
 
At the 11:55 mark in the first half, CSU-Pueblo took a 19-point lead, their largest of the game.  Fort Lewis responded by finishing the half out-scoring the Pack, 35-14, and taking a 46-44 lead at the break. 
 
The second half featured five score ties before CSU-Pueblo opened a 16-6 run and keep the lead for the remainder of the game.  Alex Herrera dished the ball to Mike Matthews for a layup with 33 seconds left in the game to cut the Pack's lead to 87-84, but CSU-Pueblo finished the game making 6-of-6 free throws and to earn their second win of the conference season, 93-87.
 
Herrera recorded a game high 25 points to go with his 10 rebounds.  He made 10-of-19 field goals and 5-of-6 free throws.  Nick Tomsick followed with 22 points, three assists and seven rebounds.  Mike Matthews came off the bench to post 19 points, six rebounds and three assists.
 
The Skyhawks out-rebounded CSU-Pueblo 38-34.  As a team, they netted 32-of-70 field goals and 15-of-17 free throws.
 
CSU-Pueblo was paced by Nate Tigner who tallied a game high 32 points.  Tigner made 12-of-15 field goals, dished out nine assists and grabbed six rebounds.  The Pack made 52.3 percent from the floor (34-of-65) and 43.3 percent from long range (13-of-30).
 
Fort Lewis will play a single game next week when they travel to Adams State on Saturday for an 8 p.m. game.
