DURANGO, Colo. — Former Phoenix College defensive tackle
C.J. Anderson is among three transfers who have enrolled in classes at Fort Lewis College this semester, head football coach
John L. Smith announced today.
The others include Arthur Ray, Jr., a 6-foot-3, 300-lb. offensive lineman from Michigan State University and Mount Carmel High School in Chicago; and
Chris Friesen, a 6-foot-5, 275-lb. offensive lineman from Utah State University and Summit High School in Mansfield, Texas. All three have two years of eligibility remaining.
Anderson, a 6-foot-3, 290-lb. defensive tackle who prepped at Corona del Sol High School in Chandler, Ariz., is a much-needed commodity for the Skyhawks.
“Defensive linemen are and will continue to be a premium for us,” said Smith. “C.J. is capable as well of being an offensive lineman should we ever need to make that move. We are projecting him to start and be an immediate help for us in the defensive front.”
Anderson was a two-year starter at defensive tackle for the Bears. He was a 2011-12 Scholar-Athlete Award winner.
He is a 2011 graduate of Corona del Sol who earned first team all-region honors for the Aztecs. He also wrestled in the heavyweight division for Corona del Sol.
Anderson was also involved in Student Council in 2009-10 and in the Unity Club in 2010-11 in high school. He plans to study Accounting and Business Administration-Finance at Fort Lewis College.
He is the son of Clifford Anderson of Gilbert, Ariz., and Sylvia Anderson of Chandler, Ariz.
“The signing class will be limited in numbers, but the recruiting will continue,” Smith said. “Even though our signing class is very limited, that class will continue to grow and develop as we get through spring ball into the summer time. We are not stopping recruiting with what we have to sign. There will be an addition of a lot more kids to next year's roster. It's quality — very, very quality in the few numbers that we have. We expect that quality to grow as well as the numbers to grow.”
