Regis Hands Men’s Soccer 3-2 Loss

Box Score DENVER, Colo. – Playing one man down for 65 minutes, the Fort Lewis College men's soccer team couldn't overcome the deficit as they fell to Regis University on the road Sunday afternoon, 3-2.  The loss marks the Skyhawks third straight as they fall to 4-3-1 overall and 1-3-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  The win improves the Rangers to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the league.

"We played 65 minutes with 10 men and we dominated the game," said Fort Lewis head men's soccer coach Oige Kennedy.  "It's just unfortunate. I was really proud of the guys because they had a lot of adversity this past week and came together.  They put in a performance that was worthy of winning that game.  We're very proud of their work rate and effort form the whole squad."

Just five seconds after the Skyhawks went to 10 players on the Regis Match Pitch, the Rangers took advantage and netted their first goal of the game by Arnthor Kristinsson at 24:19.  Martin Maybin extended the lead for Regis six minutes later.  Maybin then assisted on the Rangers third goal of the game at 35:47 when Mark Kelly gave RU a 3-0 lead.

Shortly before halftime in the 37th minute, Luke Lawrence worked his way through the Rangers defense to score on the right side of the goal, cutting the lead to 3-1.  Maik Brandt gave the Skyhawks their second goal of the game at 41:25 when he teamed up with Austin Derksen on a Skyhawk corner kick.

Both teams remained scoreless in the second half as Regis sustained their 3-2 lead.

Ryan Schaul made his return as goalkeeper for Fort Lewis, netting four saves on seven shots on goal.

The Skyhawks will play at Adams State on Friday at 3 p.m.  They will return home Sunday to face CSU-Pueblo at 3:30 p.m.
