Becker Records Hat Trick in a 3-3 Tie at St. Edward’s

Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – Sophomore Yannis Becker (Stittensen, Germany/Gymnasium Obervleland) scored three goals Sunday afternoon in a 3-3 tied at St. Edward's University.  The tie moves the Fort Lewis College men's soccer program to a 1-0-1 overall record, while SEU moves to 0-1-1.

"Becker has started the season off well," said head coach Oige Kennedy.  "It was hard coming off the game at Midwestern State Friday night.  That game made it a tough turnaround.  I'm proud of the guys for getting back in the game.  They kept fighting to the end."

Becker recorded an unassisted goal off of a free kick at 13:30 in the first half from 25 yards out to give the Skyhawks a 1-0 lead.  SEU's Jason Aiken knotted the game three minutes before halftime on header.  With a 1-1 tie heading into the second half, senior Jordan Alexander (Cambridgeshire, England/Soham Village) found Becker on a cross at 63:08 to give the Skyhawks a 2-1 edge.  Fourteen minutes later SEU tied the game again, this time on a penalty kick.  Shortly afterwards, SEU took a 3-2 advantage when Daniel Riley scored off a cross into the box.  With just over a minute left in regulation, Becker scored his third goal of the game from a Zac Lawrence (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva) assist.

Fort Lewis was out-shot by St. Edward's, 25-14 (10-8 shots on goal).  SEU also held the advantage on corner kicks, 13-1. Sophomore Ryan Schaul (Frisco, Texas/Lakeland HS) notched seven saves in 110 minutes of action.

The Skyhawks will open their home season this Thursday against the University of Mary at 3:30 p.m.
