Box Score DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College men's basketball team shot 50.8 percent from the floor (31-of-61) and out-rebounded Regis University 40-31 on their way to a 79-59 win at Whalen Gymnasium Friday night. The win was the Skyhawks sixth straight as they improve to 11-3 overall and 8-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Junior forward
Alex Herrera notched his sixth double-double of the season with a game high 21 points and a game high 14 rebounds. Herrera made 9-of-13 field goals and 3-of-4 free throws.
Nick Tomsick chipped in 13 points, five assists and five steals, while
Oscar Garcia came off the bench to score 11 points on 5-of-6 field goals.
The Rangers' (4-11, 1-9 RMAC) 59 points were the second fewest an opponent has scored on the Skyhawks this season. Fort Lewis held RU to a 35.7 field goal percentage (20-of-56) and only 18.2 percent from long range (4-of-22).
Fort Lewis, which led the entire game, led by as many as 24 points with 2:38 left in regulation. The Skyhawks hit nearly 60 percent of their shots in the first half, sinking 16-of-27 field goals and 3-of-5 three-point field goals.
The Skyhawks will face No. 4 Metro State Saturday night at Whalen Gymnasium. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. The first 1,000 fans to tomorrow's women's and men's games will receive a free "Stomp and Holler" gold t-shirt.
