Women’s Basketball Loses 77-69 Decision to Black Hills State

Box Score DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College women's basketball team lost a 77-69 decision Saturday night to Black Hills State University in Whalen Gymnasium.  The loss moves the Skyhawks to 7-4 on the year and 4-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
 
The Skyhawks held a 38-36 lead at halftime, despite shooting 14 fewer free throws than the Yellowjackets.  FLC made 1-of-3 from the charity stripe in the first half, compared to BHSU's 15-of-17 made free throws.
 
Christie Groh and Erika Richards tied for game high honors with 18 points each.  Groh netted 9-of-14 field goals and added 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.  Richards netted 5-of-15 field goals and pulled down five caroms.  Ashley Kuchar distributed eight assists to go with her 12 points.  Kuchar made all six free throw attempts.
 
Calli Bechtel paced the Yellowjackets with 14 points and 6-of-12 field goals. 
 
FLC edged Black Hills State in rebounds, 38-35, and forced the Yellowjackets to commit 20 turnovers.
 
The Skyhawks will travel to New Mexico Highlands and Western New Mexico this weekend.  Friday's game will tip-off at 6 p.m., followed by Saturday's game at WNMU at 5:30 p.m.
