IGNACIO, Colo. – November 15, 2014 – Fort Lewis College survived a late run by the University of Texas of the Permian Basin Falcons Saturday night at Sun Ute Community Center in Ignacio, Colo. The Skyhawks postd a 101-97 win over the Falcons to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Five Skyhawks posted at least 10 points in the win. Senior center
Alex Herrera led the Skyhawks with 25 points and a game high 11 rebounds. Herrera made 4-of-10 field goal and 17-of-24 free throws. He also blocked three shots and added two assists.
Starters
Cade Kloster and
Will Morse each netted 10 points. Starting guard
Jared Smith chipped in 14 points after making 4-of-6 field goals and 5-of-6 free throws.
Lucas Archuleta came off the bench to net 15 points, eight of which came from the charity stripe.
The Falcons' Madison Turner scored a game high 26 points.
Fort Lewis made 24-of-52 field goals for 46.2 percent and 7-of-15 from behind the arc (46.7 percent). The Skyhawks out-scored UTPB in the first half, 48-37 but were outscored in the second half, 60-53. FLC led by as many as 18 with 12 minutes left in regulation.
Fort Lewis outscored the Falcons in the paint, 32-26 and on second chance points, 18-5. UTPB's bench out-scored FLC, 52-34 and on fast breaks, 23-4.
The Skyhawks will play host to Northern New Mexico Tuesday night in Whalen Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
