GOLDEN, Colo. – November 28, 2014 – The Fort Lewis College men's basketball team rolled to a 71-52 neutral site win Friday night in Golden, Colo. against MidAmerica Nazarene. The win is the Skyhawks fifth straight of the season as they improve to 5-0 this season.
"We guarded just well enough on a night when were sluggish offensively," said Fort Lewis College associate head coach
Bob Pietrack. "We were just good enough to outscore them. We lacked a rhythm offensively but we were better defensively in the least seven minutes. We'll need a much better performance tomorrow against UC San Diego."
Senior center
Alex Herrera led all scorers with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Herrera, who has now recorded five straight double-doubles this season, had recorded a double-double by halftime with 14 points and 10 rebounds. He finished the game making 5-of-12 field goals and 7-of-11 free throws. He added six blocked shots.
Cade Kloster also chipped in 13 points after making 4-of-8 field goals, 2-of-4 three-point field goals and 3-of-4 free throws.
Will Morse dished out a game high six assists and
Rasmus Bach added three assists and six points.
The Skyhawks committed nine turnovers and forced MNU to turn the ball over 17 times. The Skyhawks scored 22 points off of turnovers and outscored MNU 13-7 on second chance points.
Fort Lewis led the entire game. The Skyhawks made 37.7 percent from the floor (23-of-61), 25.0 percent from long range (8-of-32) and 70.8 percent from the charity stripe (17-of-24).
The Skyhawks will play their final non-conference game of the season Saturday night at 5 p.m. against UC-San Diego.
