SALT LAKE CITY – November 7, 2014 – Friday night marked the first of three exhibition games for the Fort Lewis College men's basketball team. The Skyhawks faced University of Montana Western in Salt Lake City at the Westminster College Tipoff Classic, defeating the Bulldogs, 89-80.
"We played all 14 players in our program tonight," said Fort Lewis College associate head coach
Bob Pietrack. "We have a long way to go defensively, but these exhibition games will get us ready for the Ignacio classic next weekend."
Senior center
Alex Herrera led all players with 21 points. Herrera netted 8-of-9 from the floor and 5-of-7 from the free throw line. He added 11 rebounds and four blocks.
Kofi Josephs chipped 11 points, nine of which came from long range as he made 3-of-11 from three-point range.
Rasmus Bach recorded a game high seven assists to go with his eight points.
The Skyhawks, who trailed by one at halftime, 41-40, outscored the Bulldogs in the second half, 49-39. FLC made 32-of-63 field goals (50.8 percent) and 15-of-37 from three-point range (40.5 percent).
Fort Lewis outscored UMW 10-2 on fast break points, but the Skyhawks were outscored in the paint (36-28) and off of turnovers (23-16).
The Skyhawks will play their second exhibition game Saturday night against host school Westminster at 7 p.m.
