DURANGO, Colo. – December 20, 2014 – Colorado Mesa University handed the Fort Lewis College men's basketball team their first home loss of the season Saturday night, 94-88. The loss moves the Skyhawks to 7-3 overall and 2-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. CMU improves to 9-2 overall and 4-1 in the league.
Fort Lewis trailed by as many as 18 points in the second half but went on a 15-5 run late in the second half to cut the lead down to four points with 1:11 left in regulation. CMU closed out the final 71 seconds making seven free throws and holding the Skyhawks to two field goals.
Senior center
Alex Herrera led all scorers with 27 points and a team high 15 rebounds to go with his three blocked shots, two assists and steal. His 27 points and 15 caroms marked his eighth double-double of the year. Herrera made 10-of-19 field goals and 7-of-10 free throws.
Cade Kloster recorded 19 points after making 6-of-10 field goals, including 5-of-8 from long range.
Will Morse made all three of his free throw attempts as part of his eight points while dishing out four assists.

Austin Haldorson and
Jalen Terry each scored seven points. Haldorson made 4-of-4 from the free throw line and six of Terry's points came from downtown in only six minutes of action.
Fort Lewis made 28-of-65 field goals (43.1 percent) and 23-of-32 from the charity stripe (71.9 percent). The Mavericks hit 32-of-55 field goals for 58.2 percent, 12-of-23 three-point field goals for 52.2 percent, and 18-of-26 free throws.
FLC out-scored CMU in the paint (28-26), off of turnovers (9-2), second chance points (11-2) and fast break points (14-11), but the Mavs bench netted 46 points to the Skyhawks 22.
Fort Lewis will wrap up their three-game home stand Sunday afternoon against Western State at 5 p.m.
