DURANGO, Colo. – December 21, 2014 – Five Fort Lewis College men's basketball players scored at least 10 points Sunday evening in a 92-81 home win over Western State Colorado University. The win improves the Skyhawks to 8-3 overall and 3-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Mountaineers fall to 2-8 overall and 1-5 in the RMAC.
Fort Lewis was led by senior center
Alex Herrera's 24 points. Herrera made 9-of-14 field goals and 6-10 free throws. He pulled down 15 rebounds to record his ninth double-double in 11 games this season. He added three assists and blocked two shots.
Cade Kloster netted 16 points, eight of which came from the charity stripe and four more from long range.
Rasmus Bach chipped in 12 points after making 5-of-10 field goals.
Lucas Archuleta came off the bench to net 12 points, and
Austin Haldorson was perfect from the floor, netting all four field goal attempts and both free throws.
The Skyhawks made 29-of-54 field goals for 53.7 percent and hit 8-of-20 from behind the arc for 40 percent. FLC outscored the Mountaineers, 36-16 in the paint. The Skyhawks bench scored 27 points compared to WSCU's three bench points.
Eight of the Skyhawks final 10 points in the game came from the free throws line, where they made 26-of-36 for the game (72.2 percent). Fort Lewis led by as many as 12 in the game and held the lead for nearly 35 minutes.
The Mountaineers' Mason Biddle led all scorers with 30 points.
Fort Lewis will return to competition Jan. 2 at Chadron State College.
