The last time the Skyhawks started their season 5-0 was 2012-13. Fort Lewis has also started their season 5-0 in 2010-11 and 2009-10, including a 6-0 start in 1997-78 under head coach Chuck Walker. The Skyhawks hit the century mark in three consecutive wins against Texas-Permian Basin (101-97), Northern New Mexico (105-92) and Eastern New Mexico (104-72). FLC has scored at least 100 points in three straight games two other times in program history: 1995-96 and
1990-91.
Senior center
Alex Herrera became the all-time blocked shots leader at Fort Lewis on Friday, Nov. 14 against St. Mary's. Herrera broke Rich Hillyer's career block record of 208.
Herrera has been named the RMAC Player of the Week this season three weeks in a row (Defensive-Nov. 17, Offensive. 24, Defensive-Dec. 1). In four years at FLC, Herrera has earned the RMAC Player of the Week award 12 times.
Herrera leads NCAA Division II in blocked shots per game (4.83), double-doubles (6) and free throw attempts (67). He leads the league in defensive rebounds per game (9.0), free throws made (47), rebounds per game (11.2), total blocks (29) and total rebounds (67).
The Skyhawks men's team earned 133 points and are picked fourth in the RMAC preseason poll. For the second year in a row,
Alex Herrera has been tabbed the RMAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
ABOUT THE MOUNTAIN LIONSThe Mountain Lions are coming off a historic season. UCCS set program records last season in total wins (21) and longest winning streak (10), won its first playoff game in its first home playoff game and played in theRMAC Shootout championship game for the first time in program history. Picked No. 2 in the RMAC pre-season poll behind MSU Denver, the Mountain Lions are averaging 90.8 points per game and only allowing 65.5 points per game, both of which are ranked second in the league.
All-American Derrick White is fourth in the league with 20.8 points per game, assists (4.8 per game), and blocked shots (2.2 per game).
The Mountain Lions enter the weekend 6-0 (3-0). They have faced three NCAA Division II opponents so far this season, two NAIA opponents and one NCAA Division III team.
The Skyhawks had a 10-game winning streak against UCCS snapped last season in the final matchup between the two teams. UCCS posted a 76-74 win over FLC on Feb. 14 at UCCS. The Skyhawks lead the overall series, 33-9. They are 13-7 against the Mountain Lions on UCCS' home court.
ABOUT THE THUNDERWOLVESThe Pack started the season with three wins but have lost their last two games on the road against West Texas A&M and Midwestern State.
They are 3-0 at home this season and will play four straight RMAC games in Massari Arena.
CSU-Pueblo is third in the league in scoring with 89.5 points per game and sixth in scoring margin (+9.5 points per game).
Bronson Moton leads the ThunderWolves in scoring (16.3 points per game) and rebounding (8.3 rebounds per game). Tyrone Marshall ranks third in the league in blocked shots (2.3 per game), sixth in rebounding (7.5 per game) and 20th in scoring (14.0 per game).
CSU-Pueblo leads the all-time series with Fort Lewis by five games, 46-41. Fort Lewis is 14-28 when playing on the Pack's home court. FLC's last win at CSU-Pueblo was Dec. 1, 2012 (82-80 OT).
