Box Score PUEBLO, Colo. – The eighth highest scoring men's basketball team in NCAA Division II was held to a season low 55 points Friday night, as the Fort Lewis College men's basketball team suffered a 71-55 loss to Colorado State University-Pueblo.
"We didn't have enough energy, enthusiasm or fight to win a college basketball game tonight," said Fort Lewis College associate men's basketball coach
Bob Pietrack. "We couldn't make anything and CSUP is hard to guard. They played well against us tonight."
After shooting 37.9 percent from the floor in the first half, the Skyhawks trailed by 11 at the break, 39-28. Fort Lewis made 3-of-9 from long range in the first half, but went cold in the second half, netting only 1-of-8. The Skyhawks finished the game making 21-of-55 from the floor (38.2 percent) and 4-of-17 from three-point range (23.5 percent).
Alex Herrera led all scorers with 20 points and he pulled down a team high six rebounds and blocked a game high six shots. Herrera made 7-of-15 field goals and 5-of-6 free throws.
Nick Tomsick added 13 points, five caroms and three assists.
The loss moves the Skyhawks to 14-7 on the year and 11-6 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The win improves the ThunderWolves to 12-9 overall and 10-6 in league games.
The Skyhawks were out-rebounded by CSU-Pueblo, 47-30. Despite committing only eight turnovers in the game, FLC dished out a season low eight assists.
The Pack had four players score at least 13 points with Nathan Tigner and Julian Caldwell each chipping in 15 points. Both combined for 13 assists and only three turnovers.
FLC will face UC-Colorado Springs Saturday night at the Gallogly Event Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
