Alex Herrera and senior guard
Nick Tomsick combined for 44 points to lead the Fort Lewis College men's basketball team to a 96-90 win over New Mexico Highlands University Saturday night. The win moves the Skyhawks to 14-6 overall and 11-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Herrera netted a team high 22 points after making 4-of-10 field goals and 14-of-15 free throws. He added nine rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals. Tomsick registered 20 points after netting 5-of-15 field goals and 9-of-11 free throws.
Cade Kloster came off the bench to record 15 points and pull down five rebounds.
The Skyhawks shot an uncharacteristic 37.7 percent from the floor, but were solid from the free throw line after making 39-of-45 (86.7 percent). Fort Lewis converted 20 points off of the Cowboys' 11 turnovers and netted 14 second chance points.
Fort Lewis pulled down 42 rebounds to the Cowboys 31 for a 12 rebound advantage.
The Skyhawks will play their next four games on the road. FLC will travel to CSU-Pueblo Friday night and UC-Colorado Springs Saturday. Both games are slated to tip off at 7:30 p.m.
