Men’s Basketball Advances to Semifinal Round

Box Score DURANGO, Colo. – Three Skyhawks scored at least 16 points to lead the Fort Lewis College men's basketball team to a 79-68 win over Colorado State University-Pueblo Tuesday night at Whalen Gymnasium in the quarterfinal round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
 
The Skyhawks entered the tournament as the fourth seed and improve to 18-9 on the season.  Fifth seed CSU-Pueblo ends their season at 15-12 overall.
 
Nick Tomsick netted 6-of-14 field goals and made 10-of-12 free throws for 24 points.  He added six rebounds and dished out two assists in 33 minutes of action.  Oscar Garcia and Alex Herrera each tallied 16 points, with Herrera tallying 12 rebounds and two blocked shots.
 
The Skyhawks out-rebounded CSU-Pueblo by 16 (46-30), and out-scored the ThunderWolves in the paint, 26-18.
 
Fort Lewis trailed by 10 at halftime but out-scored CSU-Pueblo in the second half by 21, 50-29.
 
Nate Tigner led all scorers with 26 points after making 10-of-16 field goals.
 
Fort Lewis will face top seed and No. 1 ranked Metro State Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
