Box Score Hall, Skyhawks Earn First Win of the Season DURANGO, Colo. – September 4, 2014 – First year head coach
Jimmy Hall earned his first win of his collegiate coaching career today after he guided the Fort Lewis College women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Texas Woman's University Thursday afternoon at Dirks Field. It was the Skyhawks first game of the season.
Courtney Riley took a corner kick in the 22
nd minute from the northeast corner of the field and found
Carolyn Archer who headed the ball in for a 1-0 lead.
Texas Woman's tied the game at 39:36 when Megan Coppedge served the ball toward the goal but was deflected by a Skyhawk defender.
Both teams went into halftime knotted 1-1 before Riley struck again.
Kyleigh Wierenga found Riley in the 71
st minute who dribbled through the defense from the upper left side of the box and netted the game winning goal.
The Skyhawks outshot TWU, 11-8 (7-5 shots on goal).
Caitlyn Espinosa recorded four saves.
Fort Lewis (1-0-0) will play host to Midwestern State University on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. The Mustangs are coached by former Skyhawk coach Damian Clarke. Prior to the Skyhawks game today, MSU drew a 2-2 double overtime tie with Colorado Mesa University on Dirks Field. CMU will face the Pioneers Saturday at 10 a.m.
