DENVER – January 16, 2015 – Led by
Alex Herrera's 11
th double-double this season of 30 points and 12 rebounds, the Fort Lewis College men's basketball team won their sixth straight game this season after defeating Regis University at Regis Fieldhouse, 78-70.
The road win improved the Skyhawks record to 13-3 overall and 8-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The loss moves the Rangers to 4-10 overall and 2-8 in the RMAC.
"It was another very tough RMAC road win," said Fort Lewis College associate head coach
Bob Pietrack. "Alex had another dominant performance tonight. We shot the ball really well from the free throw line in the second half (11-of-15) and rebounded, and that was the difference in the game. We're very proud of our effort. We look forward to tomorrow night."
Herrera netted 11-of-15 field goals and 8-of-12 rebounds, both of which were game highs. He added three blocked shots in his 38 minutes on the floor.
Cade Kloster made 2-of-6 three-point field goals as part of his 14 points. Kloster added two assists and two rebounds.
Will Morse scored all 12 of his free throw points from the free throw line where he made all 12 attempts.
Jared Smith dished out a game high three assists and added two steals, two rebounds and five points.
The Skyhawks made 44.4 percent from the floor (24-of-54) and 27-of-37 for 73.0 percent. FLC out-scored the Rangers in the paint (40-34), off of turnovers (20-8), and second chance points (13-11).
Three Rangers scored in double figures, led by Brett Hartshorne's 17 points.
Fort Lewis will face No. 17 MSU Denver Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Auraria Event Center.
