Skyhawks Suffer 36-Point Setback at #17 MSU Denver

DENVER – January 17, 2015 – The Fort Lewis College men's basketball team was held to a season low 51 points Saturday night as they lost to No. 17 MSU Denver at Auraria Event Center, 87-51.  The Skyhawks move to 13-4 overall and 8-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  The Roadrunners improve to 14-3 overall and 9-2 in league games.
 
"We didn't do anything well enough to win tonight," said Fort Lewis College associate head coach Bob Pietrack.  "We will get back to Monday and prepare for an extremely important weekend coming up."
 
The Skyhawks, who never led in the game, trailed by as many as 39 points in the second half.  They were out-scored 45-16 in the first half, and 42-35 in the second half.
 
Fort Lewis shot a season low 30.3 percent from the floor (13-of-43) and made only 6-of-22 field goals in the first half (27.3 percent).  Despite going 0-for-7 in the first half from three-point range, the Skyhawks made 4-of-12 in the second half, but finished the game with a season low 21.1 percent (4-of-19).  FLC also shot a season low from the free throw line, making 21-of-37 attempts (56.8 percent).
 
Alex Herrera was the lone Skyhawk to score in double figures.  He made 5-of-9 from the floor and 7-of-15 from the charity stripe while pulling down a team high six rebounds and blocking a team high three shots.  Will Morse added six points, three assists and two steals.  Five of Rasmus Bach's eight point came from the charity stripe.  Lucas Archuleta came off the bench to net nine points on 3-of-4 field goals and 2-of-2 free throws.
 
The Skyhawks were out-rebounded, 47-29.
 
Mitch McCarron led the Roadrunners with a career high 31 points.
 
The Skyhawks will return home to Whalen Gymnasium Jan. 23-24 to play host to Colorado Christian University and Colorado School of Mines.  Both games will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
