DURANGO, Colo. – January 9, 2015 – Four Fort Lewis College women's basketball players scored at least 11 points Friday night in a 75-55 home win over New Mexico Highlands University at Whalen Gymnasium. The win improved the Skyhawks overall record to 7-5 and evened the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference mark at 4-4.
Fort Lewis took a 31-23 lead into halftime and outscored the Cowgirls (4-9, 3-6 RMAC) in the second half, 44-32.
Kaile Magazzeni led all scorers with 16 points. Magazzeni netted 7-of-9 field goals and 2-of-3 free throws. Defensively she added three steals and blocked two shots.
Mary Brinton hit on 4-of-9 field goals and made all but one of seven free throw attempts. Brinton pulled down a game high nine rebounds to go with her two blocked shots.
Skylyn Webb chipped in 13 points and
Kate Bayes came off the bench to net 11.
Ande Lampert came off the bench to block three shots. She also made two free throws, grabbed four rebounds and added one steal.
The Skyhawks netted 43.3 percent from the floor (26-60) but only 61.3 percent from the free throw line (19-31).
The Cowgirls were led by Anngelina Sanchez' 13 points. Sanchez was the lone Cowgirl to score in double figures.
Fort Lewis out-scored NMHU in the paint (36-16), off of turnovers (20-15), fast break points (21-5) and second chance points (20-15).
The Skyhawks will play host to Western New Mexico University Saturday night. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m.
