Fort Lewis Opens RMAC Season with Dominating Win

ALAMOSA, Colo. – December 5, 2015 – Six Fort Lewis College women's basketball players scored in double figures as the Skyhawks opened the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season with a 41-point win at Adams State University, 106-65.

"If we defended and took care of the ball better I'd feel better about the win," said head coach Jason Flores.  "It's important to start off the season with a win on the road.  We get to come home next weekend for two other good games."

Fort Lewis hit the first three baskets of the game to take a 7-0 lead they would not relinquish.

Michelle Tuner and Dallas Dickerson each netted 14 points to lead the team in scoring.  Turner made 5 of 7 field goals including 4 of 6 from long range as part of her 14 points.  Dickerson netted 4 of 8 from the floor (2 of 5 from three-point range) and all four field goal attempts.  Astrea Reed chipped in 13 points and three assists.

Mary Rambo recorded her second double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds.  Rambo was nearly perfect from the floor, sinking 4 of her 5 attempts and 5 of 6 from the charity stripe.  She added three blocks, an assist and a steal.  Simone Ruedin came off the bench to add 13 points and a game high seven assists while Kate Bayes netted 11 points, two steals and two assists.

FLC finished the game shooting a solid 58.7 percent from the floor (37 of 63), 42.1 percent from three-point land (8 of 19) and 72.7 percent from the free throw line (24 of 33).  The Skyhawks held a 16 rebound advantage, 45-29, and forced ASU to commit 29 turnovers.

The Skyhawks outscored Adams State in the paint, 40-18, off of turnovers, 32-18, bench points, 41-26, and second chance points, 16-4.

Fort Lewis will return home Dec. 11-12 to play host to Colorado School of Mines and Colorado Christian University.  Both games will tip off at 5:30 p.m.
