DURANGO, Colo. – February 13, 2015 – Despite shooting a solid 48.3 percent from the floor in the first half (14-of-29), the Fort Lewis College men's basketball team suffered a 24-point setback at home against Colorado State University-Pueblo Friday night, 83-59. The loss ties both teams for fourth place in the conference standings with a 12-5 record.
The Skyhawks hit only 6-of-20 field goals in the second half (30 percent) and finished the game making 3-of-14 three-point field goals, tying a season low for made three-point field goals.
The ThunderWolves forced the Skyhawks to commit 18 turnovers, which CSUP converted into 24 points.
Alex Herrera led both teams in scoring with 27 points. He added 10 rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots while hitting 11-of-17 field goals and 5-of12 free throws.
Cade Kloster added 14 points and made all nine free throw attempts.
Austin Haldorson chipped in seven points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.
The Skyhawks bench was out-scored, 43-2. Fort Lewis posted 26 points in the paint to the ThunderWolves 18, but CSUP tallied 12 fast break points to FLC's two, and nine second chance points to the Skyhawks one.
Fort Lewis was out-rebounded 38-31, including 11-6 on the offensive glass.
Four ThunderWolves scored in double figures, led by Will Newman's 18.
The Skyhawks will play host to University of Colorado Colorado Springs tomorrow night. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
