Skyhawks Drop Two in the Desert

LAS VEGAS – February 14, 2015 – The Fort Lewis College softball team scored two runs Saturday against Eastern New Mexico University and St. Edward's University at the 2015 MSU Billings Desert Stinger Classic on Saturday in Las Vegas, Nev..  The two runs marked the only offense the Skyhawks produced as they fell 2-1 to ENMU and 11-1 in five innings to SEU.

"These games are helping to prepare us for the rest of our season," said head coach Kira Zeiter.  "I like that were able to play region teams today to see where we want to end up at the end of this season."

In the first game of the day against the Zias, Adriana Rosthenhausler hit her first home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth to cut ENMU's lead to 2-1.  Both teams would remain scoreless the remainder of the game as the Skyhawks dropped their fourth straight game.

Victoria Johnson pitched the entire game, allowing six hits and striking out four batters.  Rosthenhasuler and Denae Fisher each accounted for one hit as the Skyhawks were held to two hits in the game.

Trailing 11-0, the Skyhawks lone run against St. Edward's came in the top of the fifth inning when Kiley Raica singled to score Fisher.  FLC allowed nine runs in the bottom of the third on nine hits.  Two of the nine hits allowed were home runs, including a grand slam.

Raica was the pitcher of record against SEU, allowing seven runs on 10 hits in 2.1 innings of work.

Myndee Thompson recorded two of the Skyhawks four hits.

Fort Lewis (2-8 overall) will play their fifth game of the Classic on Sunday against Lubbock Christian at 11:30 a.m.
