DURANGO, Colo. – February 14, 2015 –
Michelle Turner hit a three-point field goal with 2.8 seconds remaining in regulation to give the Fort Lewis College women's basketball team a 62-61 win in overtime over University of Colorado Colorado Springs Saturday night at Whalen Gymnasium.
The win moved the Skyhawks to 13-9 overall and 10-8 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. UCCS moves to 19-5 overall and 14-4 in league games.
Fort Lewis was down seven at halftime to the Mountain Lions, 30-23, and trailed by as many as nine at the 13:23 mark in the second half. The Skyhawks went on a 10-2 run after making 8-of-8 free throw attempts to take a 42-41 lead.
Mary Brinton made two free throws with 4:08 left in the regulation to give FLC a 49-47 lead. UCCS tied the game with 3:21 and both teams remained scoreless in the final 3:21 of regulation to push the game to overtime.
UCCS' Abby Kirchoff made three three-pointers in a row to push the Mountain Lions lead to 58-55 with 1:14 left in overtime. Trailing by two, 61-59, with 11 seconds left, Tuner made her only basket of the game to lift the Skyhawks to their second overtime win of the season.
Skylyn Webb recorded her second double-double of the season after sharing team high honors in points (15) and a team high 10 rebounds. She made 4-of-7 field goals and all six free throw attempts to go with her two assists and one steal.
Dallas Dickerson came off the bench to score a career high 15 points. Her previous career high of 13 points was recorded Friday night against CSU-Pueblo. Dickerson was also perfect from the charity stripe on all six attempts, and made all three field goals from behind the arc.
Brinton finished the game with 12 points, 10 of which came from the free throw line. She stole the ball twice and pulled down seven rebounds.
The Skyhawks bench out-scored UCCS, 27-17. Fort Lewis also out-rebounded UCCS, 49-43. FLC made 14-of-50 field goals for the game (28 percent), and 5-of-10 three-pointers. They shot 17 more free throws than the Mountain Lions, netting 29-of-35 for 82.9 percent.
Kirchoff led UCCS with 21 points.
Fort Lewis will remain at home next Friday and Saturday when they play host to MSU Denver and Regis University.
