WBB | Late Run Leads to 65-64 Road Win

GUNNISON, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College women's basketball team used an 11-0 run late in the second half to edge Western State Colorado University on the road, 65-64, Friday night at Paul Wright Gym.  The win improves the Skyhawks to 16-9 overall and 13-8 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
 
Fort Lewis trailed 57-53 with 4:23 left in regulation before scoring 11 unanswered points to take a 64-57 lead with 42 seconds left in the game.  Kaile Magazzeni's two made free throws gave FLC the 64-57 lead before Western State's Ajai Ford hit a three-pointer to cut the lead down to 64-60.  A turnover by the Skyhawks resulted in a jumper by Taylor Long with 12 ticks left that sliced the Skyhawks lead down to two, 64-62.   Kylie Santos made 1-of-2 free throws with 10 seconds to give the Skyhawks a three point lead.  WSCU netted a bucket with two ticks left in the game but the Skyhawks hung on for their fourth straight win.
 
Mary Brinton scored a career high 23 points after making 7-of-12 from the floor and 9-of-13 from the charity stripe.  Kylie Santos scored a career high 17 points after netting 6-of-14 from the floor and 4-of-5 free throws.  She also dished out a team high three assists.  Magazzeni added 11 points and eight rebounds.
 
The Skyhawks were solid from the floor in the first half after making 42.9 percent (22-of-56), but were held to 35.7 percent in the second half.  They finished the game making 22-of-56 field goals (39.3 percent) and 18-of-27 free throws for 66.7 percent.  FLC attempted 21 more free throws than the Mountaineers.
 
Western State's Jade McIntosh led all scorers with 25 points.  WSCU hit seven field goals from behind the arc, netting 43.8 percent from long range (7-of-16).
 
The Skyhawks will play their final regular season game Saturday night at Colorado Mesa University.  The Mavericks clinched a share of the RMAC title tonight after defeating Adams State University.  Saturday's game will tip off at 5:30 p.m.
